Who I Am, What I'm Doing, and Why My Posting Schedule Is a Lie

My plan of posting on this blog twice a week has failed spectacularly.

Maybe if I aim for once a week, I'll actually do it. We'll see.In any case, I thought it was time for another post about who I am and what I'm doing here. Short answer? I have no idea. Just kidding. I am so happy to be living in the Finger Lakes region of New York and working for myself. For one, it’s beautiful. There are over 150 waterfalls within a 10 mile radius of Ithaca! And I definitely don’t miss working in the corporate world. If you'd asked me a few years ago where I'd end up, this isn't what I would have said. Life changes, sometimes drastically, and even when the change starts from a chaotic place, it can turn into something really freakin good.

I moved here from the San Francisco Bay Area, which is its own story for another post. What matters for this one is that when I decided to start my web design shop here in Ithaca, I thought hard about who I actually wanted to work with.

My favorite clients over the years have almost always been creative people. I love working with artists. I love beautiful things. I love wandering through shops like our local artist cooperative, Handwork, or through the stalls at one of Ithaca's festivals. The kind where every table is run by the person who actually made what's on it. I get to talk to craftspeople about how they got started and why they love what they do, and there's an energy in those conversations I don't find anywhere else. So much happiness in the people I meet. Somewhere in the middle of all that wandering, I decided I wanted to help people who make something with their hands, who are already out there trying to sell it.

Maybe that's you. Maybe you're only selling at vendor fairs right now, and you want a way to stay connected with your customers after the tent comes down. Maybe you already have a website, but it isn't bringing you the traffic you'd like. Maybe you're selling on Etsy and you're just ready to be off that platform.

If any of that sounds like you, I'd love to help. There's something I really love about helping someone who has put years into their craft finally bring it to more people. That's the whole point of this, for me.

So that's the plan. More posts, hopefully closer to weekly than never. Some about running a website, some about the strategy side of selling online, and some, like this one, about the person behind the business. Thanks for reading this far. If you want to find out if I actually keep up on my new posting plan, drop your email in the newsletter signup.

I won’t share your email with anyone.
Pinky promise.
