Welcome to the Studio Blog
Hi, I'm Clara. I'm a web designer and brand strategist based in Ithaca, New York. I've been doing this work for over 20 years. I've worked with tiny one-person shops and large corporations, and a few years ago I made a big move from the San Francisco Bay Area to the Finger Lakes. I love it here. Ithaca has this rare combination of creative depth and genuine appreciation for craft that I find really inspiring.
Which is actually a good place to start.
The Connection Between Clay and Code
When I'm not working with clients, you might find me thinking about pottery. I spent so much time in the studio, hands deep in clay, and it changed the way I see making things.
Throwing a pot is slow and intentional. You center the clay, apply steady pressure, and respect the material. You can't skip steps. If you do, the piece collapses.
I think about web design the same way. A good website isn't something you rush. The structure matters, the strategy matters. The care you put into the foundation is what makes everything else hold.
Beautiful is a starting point, not a finish line
If you're an artist or a maker, you already know how to make something beautiful. That part comes naturally to you. But there's often a real gap between a stunning portfolio and a website that actually brings in work or sells your products.
A beautiful website is an asset. It shows people what you do. A profitable website is a tool. It guides people toward doing something about it. It builds trust, makes the path clear, and invites the next step.
This blog is here to help you close that gap.
We'll talk about strategy, structure, and the things that turn a good-looking website into one that works as hard as you do. We'll get into writing product descriptions that actually sell, building trust with clear policies, and finding and connecting with the customers who are right for what you make.
I'm especially excited to work with artists and makers here in the Finger Lakes region. I know this market and I understand what it means to sell handmade, high-quality work in a community that values authenticity. But wherever you are, if you're a solopreneur or small business owner who cares about doing things with intention, this space is for you.
Glad you're here. Let's get into it.
